Repeating his performance from September 2016, Encinitas Fencing Academy's Head Coach David "Lucky" Polakoski took first place in the opening tournament of the 2017-2018 season of the San Diego Cup Open series!

After a season of near-misses in the 2016-2017 season, Coach Lucky managed to finally snag his "A" rating in the first San Diego Open tournament of the new season. After a slow start to the day with a 3-2 record in pools, Lucky managed to gather himself and turn his performance around in the Elimination rounds with the help of Doug Taylor as strip coach. Facing 3 A-rated fencers on his way to the final match, an incredible amount of work and some favorable matchups led to handy victories. Only one fencer cracked double-digits against Lucky, who had scores of 15-3, 15-8, 15-9, 15-12, and 15-7 by the end of the day. Congratulations to Lucky, and a big thanks to all at the club who push him to be better every day.
